How are you today?
It's a common question we get asked, and that we ask others everyday.
But this time of year, when the holidays are rolling in, and the ball is about to drop for New Years,
I tend to start asking myself,
"How is my soul today?"
Have I been letting people,
Or my own envy, greed, or anger get the best of me?
Have I been worrying about the future and trying to control every step of the way?
Is my health and my income the way I want it to be?
Have I showed up and really been present with my family?
Is my soul on FIRE, or is it a flickering flame that I desperately trying to fan?
As I was getting on the elevator today, rushing for a meeting, I saw an elderly gentleman, and asked how he was doing?
He replied, "TERRIFIC!"
Which I thought was an enthusiastically odd response for a 90 year old with a walker and cloudy eyes,
So I probed a little more.
And he said to me,
"You can't worry about the future. You can't change the past. You can't fix the present. You just have to do the things that make you happy each day, and choose to be happy...so.. I'm terrific!"
It made me think about the things that make me happy,
And how I could best set myself up to simply just be happy.
I realized that once a year I need a complete detox.
D- I needed to DECIDE what the hell I want.
The envy that I have, what is it about that person or circumstance that I'm craving so badly that it's making me so green?
I don't envy money, I envy the freedom money gives you to work when you want, where you want, how you want in an online format.
E- Evaluate what brings me joy.
What is it that sets my soul on fire?
I love traveling and making memories with my family, so I plan to schedule my vacations and dream places now, and work hard to make that happen.
But in the meantime, I can have Friday movie and popcorn nights, Sunday Family Funday, and Mom and Son Days on Saturdays.
T- Take time for me.
This has always been a struggle for me. I love coaching others. I'm an empath and I love being a support for my friends and family.
I'm naturally a busy body, but I must learn to rest when my body is tired.
What are you needing to do for you?
Is it get in a regular workout routine? Start cooking more? Rid yourself of criticizers, critics, and people who make you question your worth?
Spend less time with your friends who have unhealthy habits, and more time with books the fuel your mind? Get a new circle?
O- Own my schedule.
It's not your job to save the day. It's not your job to fix everyone's problems. It's not your job to help the whiners, and complainers, and blamers.
Get up in the morning and take care of your health, be present at the breakfast table with your family, work on your goals, and dreams, and plans FIRST.
You can't pour from an empty cup.
X- Quit what doesn't serve you.
Is there a project that you can't complete? A person who makes you question yourself in every encounter? A family event that feels like a funeral instead of a holiday.
What can you spend less time at, give less attention to, or simply just quit.
Quitting can be freeing, if the task is no longer serving you.
