Would you walk into your dentist friends office and expect a cavity filling for free?
Sit on your friends couch who is a therapist and take an hour of their time to talk about your family conflicts?
Walk up to the Fed Ex Desk when your friend is working and ask them to mail your package for free just because you're friends?
NO, I think the answer is NO,
If you're an integral, respectful person.
Yet, I see this happen all the time to service based, at home business owners.
Friends, family, I love you and I want to help, but this is how I put food on my table.
This is how I am able to re-invest in my business to have the level of expertise that I have.
This is how I'm planning to provide a life for my son, better than I ever experienced.
And as one of my mentors, Brendon Burchard said,
"If you don't make the money, you can't support the message."
But Lisa,
"What if they think I'm greedy?"
I hear.
That thought never crosses my mind because I personally serve people for free with my:

There are lots of way you can get free help from me.
It comes down to the term opportunity cost.
It's "the loss of potential gain from other alternatives when one alternative is chosen."
If I hopped on the phone with every person who wanted to pick my brain,
Or went for coffee with every person that asked,
I be pulled away from my personal mission daily.
I'd be unavailable for someone who is ready to invest and needs our help.
We can certainly book in a time together but don't get mad when it's not the current week.
Now that's not saying you never help those in need or those who truly can't afford your services.
If I personally feel CALLED to the project, I will.
I remember an email flying around last year that a nursing student couldn't pass her boards.
I'd been in that situation as I failed mine twice.
I knew, like me, it wasn't her lack of knowledge.
It was her lack of confidence and probably some test anxiety.
So I offered up a few free sessions to her and when she took her next test, she passed!
Did that take up some time that potentially could have been for someone investing in my product suite? Yes.
But I wanted to help her. I knew I was the lady for the job because I'd been there.
She then later hired me for a coaching session on how to get hired as she couldn't pass a job interview!
Neither of these were in my "billable services" roster, but I felt called to help her because I remember that pain.
So friends, before you go calling me an A-hole because I kindly decline your phone call or coffee date.
Or before you go asking another service based provider for free advice, think about it.
I'd rather just go for a coffee or phone catch up because we're friends.
Sorry if I get a little pissy because I've invested thousands, busted my butt for years, and sacrificed a lot to get to where I'm at.
I don't just want to give that to you over a $5 coffee for 30 minutes.
If you're not ready to invest, let's just keep the business separate!
