A Message to my Younger Self

Posted May 30th, 2019 in Testimonials, Blog, Confidence, Owning Your Choices, Overcoming Perfectionism and Failure

May 29, 2019 was an epic day.

22 fellow women and I hit #1 Amazon Best Seller rank with our book,

The Beauty of Authenticity, Embracing Your Truth to Live a Life of Meaning, Purpose, and Grace.

I'm not very good at celebrating, something I'm working on, because my go-getter mentality wants to move onto the next thing.

But if you never stop to celebrate, it all becomes kinda mundane.

So that night with a glass of wine, I said "cheers" with my husband and we celebrated!

I walked around the house all day that day saying,

"I'm a #1 best seller."

Even before we hit that status at 3:20pm.

Owning it before it happens, manifestation, call if whatever you want.. it works!

But it got me thinking about my younger self.

My scared, timid, not confident, shy self.

The people pleaser, yes ma'am, desperately seeking approval- self.

And I realized how much I've shed that skin.

How I'm not the same woman I was in my teens or my twenties.

And how I got here. To being confident, achieving my dreams, writing my own destiny.

It was a mindset and focus shift.

If I had a chance to go back and talk to my younger self, I'd tell her:

1. You are already enough.

Just as you are. You don't need to be skinnier, sassier, or sexier. A smile and confidence is your best asset.

2. Stop plucking your eyebrows.

You'll regret it later.

3. Make a list of the characteristics you want in a lover and partner.

Just because a man shows you attention doesn't mean he's a keeper.

(This is how I manifested my hunny, Eric.)

4. Say "No" and end it there. Not "No" with an explanation.

You get to decide the best use of your time, money, and resources.

5. Just because they are blood, doesn't mean they are family.

Watch for patterns in human behaviour. Good and bad.

6. You don't need alcohol to have a good time.

Let it enhance your experience, but have fun because you're in good company.

7. Ask for the raise. Ask for more money. You are a bad ass money making machine.

(My favourite mantra from the book, You Are A Bad Ass At Making Money.)

8. You are not your body. It's simply a vessel.

Stop focusing so much on perfecting it and start living.

9. Speak up.

You're a part of the problem if you aren't trying to make change with causes that are important to you.

10. Everyday is a gift, so start living and loving in the here and now.

THIS is life.

In The Beauty of Authenticity Book, I share how a near miss could have been a fatal accident.

It took that "enough is enough" moment for me to make change.

Don't wait for the crash. Don't wait until your burnt out to start loving yourself. Don't stay in abusive relationships.

Don't settle. I made a series of changes in my life and I know you can too.
