I often get told,
"I really need marketing help!"
But I quickly realize it's not marketing that most people need, it's strategy first, THEN a marketing plan.
If you don't know the end game, how can you possibly start to market?
Online marketing is simply known as using web based services
Such as email, social media, SEO, etc to communicate a brand, products and services.
People don't come to us because they need marketing, it's because they need sales.
There are 3 main reasons why you need online marketing:
- To increase sales
- To increase conversions
- To increase return viewers (that eventually return to conversions and sales)
When our family travels for masterminds, events, and family vacations, I do the packing and my husband does the booking. I never have to stress about the logistics of when and where. But May of 2018, we couldn't find a sitter, and off to Arizona for a mastermind I went..alone.
I didn't know how to navigate the Uber pick up from the airport. I had never called an Uber! And the Uber driver I got was SO WEIRD. He was telling me about his beliefs and that he had 6 wives and was looking for a 7th because love should always be free.
I got off to my destination, to the event, and a few days later home all in one piece.
I was nervous, awkward, and a bit stressed because I was in the middle of something I'd never planned. Online marketing requires a plan.
So what's one quick tip I can give you about online marketing and strategy?
Ask yourself these five questions:
- What is the end game? What is the outcome I want to achieve?
- How can I be visible by sharing a personal story that relates to that outcome?
- Now that I have a story, what teaching point can I use to go with it?
- Now that I have a story, perspective, and teaching point, where can I post it?
- What metrics do I need to check to see how it landed?
Rinse and repeat for 14 days prior to any launch. If you're not launching, rinse and repeat weekly.
Now you can start to see what keywords and hashtags trend, what topics, pictures, and videos got the most response, and what platforms felt really good to you to use! Was it an IG story, an email with a video, your newsletter, a podcast?
Don't get stuck on the platform, think about your performance.
If viewers are responding to you talking live then get yourself on more podcasts, you tube, and live social channels. Host a virtual event or workshop.
If viewers are responding to posts about your family or your pets, gear your story and teaching around them.
Online marketing is just the vehicle for your views, but the secret sauce comes in paying attention to the content and strategy.
